Wheels Up, the membership-based private aviation company, has announced that it has appointed Delta board member Steven Mattson as its new CEO. Mattson will replace Wheels Up founder and current CEO Kenny Dichter, who will become the company’s Executive Chairman.

Mattson has been a member of the Delta board of directors since 2016 and is currently the chairman of the board’s audit committee. He has also served as the CEO of several companies, including Pinnacle Airlines and Northwest Airlines.

“I am thrilled to be joining the Wheels Up team and to have the opportunity to lead such a dynamic and innovative company,” said Mattson in a statement. “Wheels Up is uniquely positioned in the marketplace and I look forward to working with the team to continue to grow the business and deliver an exceptional experience for our members.”

Dichter said that Mattson is the “ideal candidate” to take over as CEO and that he is confident that Mattson will “build on the strong foundation” that has been laid.

Wheels Up was founded in 2013 and has since become one of the leading private aviation companies in the world. The company has a fleet of over 200 aircraft and provides members with access to over 1,500 airports worldwide.
